The sun rises in the east and Jeru The Damaja is here to prove that it still does.
Jeru’s latest album, Still Rising is chock full of intelligent lyricism, creative concept tracks, detailed storytelling and that unapologetic Brooklyn swagger. On ‘The Prophet’, Jeru continues where he left off in ‘Can’t Stop the Prophet’ battling evils such as anger, fear, despair, lust and ignorance.
On one of the album’s most prolific tracks, ‘History 101′, Jeru kicks some major knowledge about the infamous slave trade. This track is very deep because Jeru provides dates, names and accounts of Ponce DeLeon, Magellan and Christopher Columbus.
Still Rising is a triumphant return for Jeru. It’s lyrical and creative with beats that will make your head nod. Unfortunately, real hip-hop albums like this are slept on in this day and age of ’106 and Park’ and ‘Crank Dat Soulja Boy’. If you love hip-hop i highly recommend Still Rising. If your new to Jeru The Damaja, check out his previous joints, ‘The Sun Rises in The East’ and ‘Wrath Of The Math’.
